Our organic farm & us
Home is where the heart is!
Meet your hosts
We love what we do!
A holiday with us is like a visit to the fairground: so much fun and over far too quickly.
Before you book one of our apartments, we’re sure you want to know who you’re dealing with, right? Allow us to introduce ourselves! We are Helene and Werner with our twins Rosa and Anni and our son Theo. Together with farmer Josef, Helene’s uncle, we run our organic mountain farm in Gsiesertal. Because we feel so comfortable here on the farm and find our little plot of land so beautiful, we would like to share this feeling of well-being and our love of nature with you – as your hosts on your farm holiday. Welcome!
This is Werner.
He is the young farmer on the Preindlerhof farm and is just as relaxed and down-to-earth as he looks. He is our go-to guy, looks after the animals, and does all kinds of work on the farm, in the field, and in the forest. In winter, he has a desk job working in the promotion department of the South Tyrolean Farmers’ Union.
And this is Helene.
She is Werner’s wife and is also a farmer at the Preindlerhof. Helene takes care of the guests and is the creative force behind the website, the interior decor, and the farm. In addition, she knows her way around the garden and its diversity and the hay harvest. She also knows the most beautiful excursion destinations and how to listen – in addition to being a ‘power mama’ to twin girls and a son.
Rosa, Anni, and Theo
These little whirlwinds are Werner and Helene’s children. They have brought zest and joy into their parents’ lives and keep everyone in great shape. The children are always happy to meet new friends, play, and show them the farm animals.
Farmer Josef
Josef is Helene’s uncle, from whom Werner and Helene have taken over the farm. Josef helps with everything and takes care of the suckler cows and the hay harvest with Werner. He spends the summer as a herdsman on Preindlerhof’s mountain pasture, and when he has visitors, he indulges in his favourite pastime: playing cards.
Experience farm life
Stable for small animals
On the ground floor of the hay barn, you can get to know our various small farm animals up close and personal! Petting is not only allowed, it is encouraged! You’ll see, some animals are just waiting for you to give them some affection. A very special feature: each apartment is assigned a chicken nest. Every morning, you can go and see if ‘your hen’ has laid any eggs!
And if you want to feel like a real farmer, just put on your overalls and boots, which you are welcome to borrow for free.
Suckler cow barn
We built this animal-friendly barn in 2016. There is plenty of light and fresh air, and our cows can go outside all year round. During the day, they spend time either in the pasture or in the run. A visit to the barn is moo…st definitely worth it!
In case you were wondering: suckler cow husbandry is the most natural way to raise cattle. Once a year, each of our 14 cows gives birth to a calf that grows up together with its mother, from which they get their milk. That’s why we don’t have any of our own milk on the farm. If you are lucky, you might be there when a calf is born!
Sustainability
We also promote sustainable management, which means we only keep as many animals as we can feed with our own hay. And we call each animal by name: Wolke, Alma, Welle, Amsel and Layla, Krone, come!
Cows aren’t the only animals living on our farm; we also have...
... three goats: Lia, Liese and Lotte
... three sheep: Ida, Lina and Lisa
... chickens: Pia, Karla, Leni, Olga, Rita, Paula, Tilli, Vroni, Wilma, and Hilda
... four rabbits: Peter, Molli, Bibi and Tina
... and, last but not least, our cat Manni – meow!
Our Alpine pasture
Salzleck (Schusterhütte) – that’s the name of Preidlerhof’s very own Alpine pasture at 2,056m in Versell in Gsies. This is where our cows spend the summer. After all, they also need a change of scenery. Up here, they are well looked after by Uncle Josef, who is the Alpine herdsman and manages the Alpine hut all summer long. You are welcome to visit him!
Play area
Children need space to run around. Our play area directly in front of the apartments is the perfect place for this. Your children can also jump around on the jumping mat in the common area. For the aspiring climbers, there’s even a bouldering wall. If you can’t find your children in the small animal barn, they’ll surely be here!
Playground
There’s nothing better than playing outside in the fresh air. Our playground is the place to be when all our little guests get together to swing and play. Here you will also find bobby cars, pedal tractors, stilts, and lots of other toys and games that kids love. All kinds of surprises await!
Food from the farm
Common area
In our large, light-flooded common area, you will find seating and a play area for children. This room is the meeting point for everyone who is on holiday with us.
Here you’ll find a fridge, oven, hob, and dishwasher that you can use. Cups, plates, and glasses are also available.
Shop corner
In the common area, you will find our shop corner with farm products. Here you can buy jams, various blossom and fruit syrups, fresh eggs, herb and blossom salt, and more… to take home or to enjoy immediately.
Breakfast basket
For an additional charge, you can get a breakfast basket with milk, eggs from our chickens, homemade jam, and other tasty products from the Gsiesertal and Pustertal valleys.
Just let us know what you want when you book, and we will take care of the rest. Enjoy your meal!
Barbecue & the garden
In the garden, you will find a barbecue area – perfect for balmy summer evenings together with friends and family. Sometimes, we even have organic veal from the farm; just ask!
In addition, you can pick everything that grows around the farm and use it to make your dishes even tastier. We use the rest for our homemade treats.
